The date has been set for No Vacancy 2009. It will be held in Sydney on Thursday, March 19. As ever the central themes will be Distribution, Innovation, Technology. It will be a great day featuring industry leaders, panels, case studies, presentations and debate. There may even be a touch of controversy with hard questions asked - and answered. Over the past two years No Vacancy has established a strong reputation and for dynamic programming and great networking. Around 250 delegates attended the 2008 event. Topics included online distribution, consumer trends, channel and yield management, carbon offsetting, star ratings, modern marketing tactics, pricing, social media strategies and plenty more. There's some great photographs - check them out if you have time. As for 2009, preliminary planning is now under way. Arthur Hoffman

In his role as Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Arthur Hoffman is responsible for Expedia’s operations in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and India, as well as the growth of Expedia in the Asia Pacific region. In addition, he serves on the board of Nasdaq-listed eLong, Inc., the second largest online travel provider in China in which Expedia, Inc. is the majority shareholder. Arthur Hoffman joined Expedia in December 2004 as Managing Director, Australasia to spearhead the launch of the company’s Australian website, Expedia.com.au, in late 2005. The expansion of his role to Managing Director, Asia Pacific follows his success managing Expedia in Australia and New Zealand (which was launched in October 2007), where the company has rapidly claimed a strong market share. Prior to joining Expedia, Arthur was general manager for Qantas Holidays, where he was responsible for strategy, e-commerce and IT. During this role he oversaw the development and implementation of a new IT platform for the company, which included online booking tools for both consumers and the travel trade. Previously, Arthur served as a strategy consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton and Arthur Andersen, focusing on industries such as travel, internet incubator/ecommerce, consumer goods, media and telecommunications, and financial services. Arthur holds an MA in Science from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, and an MBA from INSEAD in France. Arthur is passionate about travelling, having backpacked extensively through Southeast Asia, Europe and Central America. One of his favourite places is the Andalusia region in southern Spain thanks to its colourful traditions, unique architecture and great food. Arthur also enjoys playing sports and always tries to find time for a game of tennis, golf or soccer. He is also a keen cyclist. |
